Covalent was founded in 2001 to deliver services in the field of IT related projects. Over the last 6 years Covalent developed several mobile Inspection solutions for specific customers. Covalent is now extending its field with a service oriented Inspection Management Platform.

In the field of large infrastructural projects Covalent designed parts of the Tunnel Technical Installations (TTI) for the 5 railway tunnels of the so called Betuwe Route (BR). The main functions of the TTI is to prevent the tunnel to collapse in case of emergency. The BR is one of the biggest infrastructural projects in the Netherlands. Covalent selected the InRule Rule engine to calculate the safety level of the individual tunnel systems out of the 30,000 sensor and status signals. The business rules are used to evaluate criteria that were derived from the RAMS (Reliability Availability Maintainability Safety) analysis that were used during tunnel design. Results are presented in a central control room as a Tunnel Safety Light (Green, Orange, Red) indicating if train traffic through the tunnel is allowed. The TSL (in Dutch TVL) is the indicator used by Train control, Fire-fighters, and water management (rivers, canals) to make decisions in case of degradation of the technical installations.
