Managing Complex Data Transformations and Validations in BizTalk Server 2009 with InRule Business Rules: A Healthcare Claims Example

Summary: The combination of BizTalk Server and InRule has successfully beat Oracle and IBM in head to head competition. This session demonstrated how these combined technologies can be used to more easily define and manage complex data transformations and validations when simple field and lookup validation is not enough.

- Demonstration of how InRule’s BRMS capabilities can extend BizTalk’s capabilities
- BizTalk Server 2009 and InRule used to verify, scrub, transform, and process large volumes of claim and patient data based on complex validation and transformation rules.
- A demonstration and technical discussion of the healthcare solution
Using a healthcare claims example, a claim may have a billed amount of $123.57, but the allowable amount may depend on whether the provider is in-network as well as a year-to-date rolling accumulation that is capped at $1500 (not to exceed the lifetime policy maximum of $100,000). In this situation, data validation is a complex evaluation of how to pay this claim based on the provider, policy limits and both year-to-date and lifetime accruals. Visual Mapping may also not be robust enough when there are many data transformation rules, when the business rules governing the transformations are complex, frequently changing, shared across processes and/or best managed by analysts or other Subject Matter Experts.
